Every list of weird Kalshi bets on the internet has the same entries: aliens, asteroids, hurricanes, the Pope. So we went to the people who trade the things. We read 25 threads on r/Kalshi and r/PredictionMarkets from April 2025 to July 2026, ranked them by upvotes, and wrote down which markets Reddit itself calls weird. Aliens came up twice, at 1 and 4 upvotes. The markets below are what the subreddit talks about.

1. Mention markets, where you bet on whether the announcer says 'tush push'

Kalshi lists contracts on whether a specific word gets said on a broadcast or at a rally. r/Kalshi trades them, argues about them, and cannot quite believe they exist. In a January 2026 thread users wondered whether NFL announcers now know a market rides on them saying 'No Good'; one r/Kalshi user imagined the call: "And the kick is... 3 second awkward pause... wide right!" A Bernie Sanders rally market on whether he would say 'Trump' or 'billionaire' crashed to a few cents when no official stream existed to check it against. Trump rally word markets get their own pre-game threads.

The biggest mention-market thread is a complaint. Highway robbery (about 199 upvotes, 113 comments) is a trader with video of a Super Bowl broadcast word being said, on a contract that resolved No. One r/Kalshi user: "Purely criminal to not void it." That is the pattern all the way down this list: on Reddit, a weird market is one whose resolution rules turned out to matter.

2. Love Island USA, and being up $550 on a show he has never seen

Kalshi runs a winning-couple market on Love Island USA. One July 2026 poster was up $550 on a show he had never watched; one r/Kalshi user replied, "Never did I think I'd be trading on reality TV markets." The thread next to it was someone weighing $3,000 of savings against a $1,000 payout on the same couple, and the top answer was the only sane one: don't bet money you're afraid to lose.

3. Spotify stream counts on Taylor Swift songs

Kalshi has daily markets on how many times a song streams on Spotify. r/Kalshi finds them funny ("The Spotify daily market is funny af") right up until they resolve. A contract on whether a new Taylor Swift song would appear on Spotify before expiry produced a 31-comment fight over close time versus payout criterion, and a November 2025 thread titled Beware betting on Spotify warned off the 'Opalite' daily stream-count market entirely.

4. Temperature markets and the rounding problem

The daily high and low temperature contracts are Kalshi's most traded weird category, and on Reddit the weirdness is arithmetic. A March 2026 thread asked why a 60.1°F Los Angeles low settled as 61; the answer, from one r/Kalshi user, was "It's how the NWS does its rounding." An older thread on the craziest outcomes in Kalshi history leads with a Houston temperature market that resolved after the airport sensor broke. And a story about an ice-cream shop hedging its rent by betting on cold days was, in the top comments, "an advertisement."

5. $141,000 To win $2,788

The funniest thing on r/Kalshi is a position size. In June 2026 someone put $141,000 on Mexico NOT to win the World Cup, for a profit of $2,788; the thread celebrating it got 35 upvotes. Three months earlier a poster asked, in the title, whether anyone had $750,000 to make an easy $57,000 by selling a 2028 nominee contract at 99 cents. These are the same trades as the biggest bets on record: enormous stakes on near-certainties, and Reddit finds the size hilarious.

6. The one that got 499 upvotes

The most-upvoted r/Kalshi thread of 2026 that we found is about the Khamenei out-of-power markets, roughly $54 million traded, which settled at the last traded price under a death clause after the contracts had already collapsed from 30 cents to 2. Whatever you think of a regulated exchange listing that question, the subreddit's verdict was about the rules. One r/Kalshi user: "They actively disrupted a market they made."

The markets Reddit does not care about

The alien-disclosure contract exists on Reddit as a four-comment thread and a satirical market proposal. The Pope market's Reddit moment was a hidden JD Vance contract ("Any baptized male is eligible. I sent my CV."). Asteroids, hurricanes and Fed emergency cuts produced no threads at all. When a user in one thread said the exotic markets were nonsense and everyone should just bet on sports, the reply was "Best markets on the planet." The asteroid contracts are still on our craziest-bets list, because they are still crazy; they just are not what the people trading Kalshi every day find strange.

One more thing the threads agree on: what is popular is boring. The subreddit's favorite markets, by its own poll in June 2026, were the 15-minute Bitcoin contracts. The weird stuff is where the stories are, and the stories are mostly about how the weird stuff resolved.

Frequently asked questions

What does Reddit say are the weirdest Kalshi bets?

The r/Kalshi threads with the most engagement are about mention markets (whether an announcer or a politician says a specific word), the Love Island USA winning-couple contract, Spotify daily-stream markets on Taylor Swift songs, and daily temperature markets and their rounding rules. Aliens and asteroids barely register.

Is there a 'weirdest Kalshi bets' thread on Reddit?

Not a canonical one. The closest is an October 2025 r/Kalshi thread on the craziest unexpected outcomes in Kalshi history, which lists a 1-cent Broncos comeback, a Houston temperature market with a broken sensor and a waved-off Kraken goal. The weird-market discussion is spread across single-market threads.

Why are so many weird-market threads complaints?

Because on Kalshi a weird market is usually one with an unusual resolution rule. The two most-upvoted 2026 threads we found, on a Super Bowl mention market and on the Khamenei contracts, are both disputes about how a contract settled.
